Thermal Behaviour Analysis and Cost-Saving Opportunities of PCM-Integrated Terracotta Brick Buildings

Buildings contribute greatly to global energy use and consumption. The consumption of buildings is significant due the integration heating, ventilation, cooling systems. Evidently, utilization phase change materials (PCMs) in building design can adequately reduce air-conditioning costs by diminishing external heat gains losses. Moreover, adoption natural, eco-friendly, cost-effective materials, such as terracotta bricks, be valuable from an environmental point view. This paper intends assess cost-saving potential several PCM stuffed brick configurations. In that respect, encapsulated PCMs were filled hollows bricks. For aims this study, five different types considered, relation thermophysical properties their solid liquid state (OM18: organic mixture, HS22: hydrated salt, OM29, OM32, OM37). addition, three PCM-stuffed configurations examined with reference number layers (PCMTB-A one layer, PCMTB-B two layers, PCMTB-C layers). Therefore, fifteen analysed numerically, related conditions refer scenarios India (hot dry composite climates). Results have unveiled OM32 assemblies shown better thermoeconomic performance compared other PCM. With respect most advantageous evidence analysis has exposed case highest annual cost-savings yearly carbon emission mitigations both climates (Ahmedabad Lucknow). hot-dry climates, exhibited ($ 74.7), mitigation (1.43 ton/kWh), moderate payback period (22.5 years) cases. To conclude, findings study suggest a suitable way improve decision-making process design, while bridging gap terms efficiency sustainability.
